The Mound Flute
Long ago (about 2,000 years or so) the indigenous people of America were united as one and were known as the "mound people". They were known to travel from the northern Appalachians to the southern tip of Peru. This was a wonderful time when boundaries and limitations did not exist as they do today.
The Mound flute is a tribute to our ancestors, combining the 2,000 year old ocarina with the North American Ojibway scale, bringing together ancient cultures in a modern time. I am inspired to make this instrument in honor of our ancestors and in a small attempt to broaden the perceptions of our modern people to think more in unison with one another.
The scale is a pentatonic (5 note) scale that has transcended time to offer a series of notes that all blend well together. No matter what combination one plays these notes, they all sound great together. Thus, this instrument inspires music from the heart and soul.
