The Ocarina
The ocarina, "little octave" in Italian, is an ancient instrument originating in Peru about 2,000 years ago or more. I have been hand-crafting these flutes for the last 18 of those 2,000 years. They are easy to play as they are whistles. Simply blow gently into the slot on the edge, and the sound is made for you through the fipple or square hatch on the back, like a whistle, recorder, or pennywhistle.
To play, simply follow the bouncing holes to see which fingers to put down. Learn your favorite songs in minutes! Everything from Bach, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Black Sabbath, AC/DC… Yes!! … everything. We give you a vast online library to choose from with links to others in our flute world with fine songs galore!
We make ocarinas in all shapes and sizes giving different tones for everyone's playing pleasure. We break it down like this:
| Pitch | Clef |
|---|---|
| Highest | Sopranino |
| High | Soprano |
| Med High | Alto |
| Med Low | Tenor |
| Low | Bass |
| Lowest | Sub Bass |
We like to help match everyone up as much as possible with the right instrument for them. If it's for your 8 year old, you might not want to choose the super high pitched Sopranino, or it will make you go crazy. You may prefer the mid range, etc. We encourage you to shop with ease, but contact us and let us guide you to the best ones for you.
